Title:                     Deputy Project Director

The Deputy Project Director assists the Project Director in all aspects of administration, implementation, managerial oversight, and technical and programmatic leadership for PMC’s program in Uganda.

Population Media Center (PMC) is a US-based, international organization specializing in entertainment-education via mass media to change behavior. PMC’s programs are dedicated to women’s rights and empowerment, population stabilization, and the environment. For the past two decades, PMC’s entertainment programming, serialized dramas on radio and television, has promoted social and cultural change and has helped 500 million people in more than 50 countries. In Uganda, PMC proposes to custom create and broadcast two unique radio serial dramas of at least 104 episodes each to address multiple themes. The dramas will be broadcast twice weekly. The entire project period is two years.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Program Management

The primary duty of the Deputy Project Director is to assist the Project Director with program implementation of the project which includes program reporting, proposal and budget preparation, and monitoring.  The Deputy Project Director may be needed to stand in for the Project Director in times of absences. Program management duties include:

  • Assist the Project Director to assure the implementation of all PMC activities in Uganda
  • Serve as Acting Project Director during the absence of the Project Director from Uganda
  • Assist the Project Director to prepare monthly activity reports to submit to PMC headquarters, government counterparts, donors and project partners
  • Assist the Project Director to develop proposals and budget estimates
  • Assist the Project Director to monitor implementation of all in-country contracts, as needed

Technical & Program Leadership

The Deputy Project Director provides leadership and quality assurance related to the technical and creative aspects of producing, recording, and broadcasting the drama. Technical and Program Leadership duties include:

  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the creative team, including the producer(s), studio technician(s), writers, and actors
  • Read the scripts written by writers and participate in the validation process
  • Identify broadcast partners, and negotiate contracts for broadcast of PMC dramas and other supporting media extensions
  • Monitor broadcast contracts and broadcast schedules
  • Provide electronic files of all creative products to PMC headquarters, government counterparts, donors and project partners in a timely manner
  • Assure the high quality of all creative products
  • Any other duty as requested by the Project Director

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters’ in Public Health, Communication, Social Sciences or in a related field
  • At least 8 years’ experience in project management at a senior level, preferably in health or similar field
  • Experience in health communication or communication for development
  • Experience with radio or television programs strongly desired
  • Demonstrable commitment to reproductive health and related social and health goals
  • Good mastery of English
