If you're looking to work flexibly and with purpose, join a team that delivers measurable change for millions.The RoleYou will oversee data systems and analytics for Evidence Action's new In-Line Chlorination Innovation Team, under the Safe Water Now Program. Evidence Action's Safe Water Now program provides access to safe drinking water across Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and India through water chlorination. Backed by rigorous research showing chlorination can reduce child mortality by more than 20%, safe water is one of the most cost-effective health interventions globally.The program's newest intervention, In-Line Chlorination (ILC), automatically treats water as it flows through piped systems, requiring less behavior change from end users than existing solutions. As ILC scales up, core questions remain about how to optimize device performance, reduce operational costs, and strengthen community engagement. Answering these questions well will shape whether ILC can become a scalable, cost-effective model reaching millions more people. Evidence Action is investing in a dedicated Innovation team to find those answers.This team relies on accurate field data to make decisions about which innovations work and which don't. Your job is to make sure that data is trustworthy. You will conduct independent spot-checks at pilot sites, comparing your readings against data collected by field technicians, identifying discrepancies, and flagging patterns that suggest measurement problems. Reporting to the Senior Associate, Innovation and data Integration you will be based in Mbale, Uganda with extensive travel to field sites.ResponsibilitiesData Collection and Verification: Collect data from the field across pilot sites to understand infrastructure, device performance, and community acceptance
Track core performance indicators for the program overall, ensuring all data is accurately recorded, verified, and submitted according to standardized measurement protocolsMonitor pilot sites for operational irregularities and flag anomalies for investigationAssist in designing simple data collection tools or dashboards to streamline pilot monitoring and reporting
Data management and Coordination: Translate findings into clear, actionable outputs for the Innovation team
Ensure clean, organized, and reliable datasets for all innovation pilotsPerform basic data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, or signals that inform pilot outcomesCommunicate findings clearly to Innovation team members and other stakeholders, ensuring data-driven recommendations are actionable
Key Performance Indicators
Quality and Completeness of Data: You will be assessed on how reliably and accurately you collect, clean, and submit pilot dataTimeliness of Insights: You will be assessed on how many sites you are able to support and whether you can promptly collect the requested data
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Monitoring & Evaluation, Public Health, or a related field2-4 years of experience in field-based data collection, monitoring, or applied researchExperience with designing data collection tools, surveys, or dashboards and implementing them in field settingsProficiency with data cleaning, analysis, and visualization tools (Excel, Google Sheets)Attention to detail and commitment to high data quality standardsAbility to work independently in field environments, often away from central offices or existing MLE structuresComfortable handling ambiguity and rapid iterations of pilots, adapting data collection to evolving protocolsStrong documentation, reporting, and communication skills to translate data into actionable insightsFluency in English (local language added advantage)Motorcycle riding licenseWillingness to be based in Mbale, Uganda with regular travel to field sites
Position LocationThis role will be based in Mbale, Uganda, with regular travel to field sites.We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of Uganda employment visa at this time.
